I’m working on the next book in the series, Tempest Rising and it’s awesome if I do say so myself. 😂 Since I’m living in Bali, you know some of it is set here.
Yesterday, after my cab driver asked me what I did for a living and I told him I wrote mysteries, he insisted that I have to go to Jakatar because of the ghosts. They follow the people from birth and throughout their lives to keep them scared. But I must be careful because if I take any of the land–like a rock or soil–from the ghost’s home, they will follow me home. If that happens, I have to return the land, and then the ghost will stop following me.
When I asked why ghosts don’t follow people in Bali he explained it was because of all the offerings the people leave. The ghosts feel satisfied and don’t try to scare them.
There are offerings everywhere here. My favorites are the ones with cigarettes and hot sauce packets–that’s my kind of ghost! I mean, if I didn’t have a corporal form, I’d be smoking like a f***ing chimney and downing hot sauce packets too.
But alas, I can’t do that because my body would revolt. Instead, I eat chia seed pudding and limit my caffeine intake like a loser trying to keep her meat suit intact. The moral of the story is I’m not nearly as fun as Balinese ghosts.
