When the Supreme Court decided...

When the Supreme Court decided...

Dobbs and ripped bodily autonomy from 51% of the nation, they reminded us that when the founding fathers said “All men are created equal,” they only meant land-owning white men.

I was raised with the knowledge that this country was designed for white men and I needed to watch out. My parents schooled me, and so did books.

Jane Austen’s female characters, who’d rather risk ruin than be trapped in a marriage, taught me there was a time not so long ago when I could have been trapped…and that ruin was a better choice.

Animal Farm explained how we are all livestock unless we refuse to be tamed. It unveiled the nature of authoritarianism and the subtle slide that precedes it.

Lord of The Flies illustrated how boys will be boys if nobody stops them.

I don’t write my books to illuminate or educate. I write them because I need something to do with all this rage inside me. All this fervor. All this fucking dread.

Sydney Rye and her dog, Blue, exact justice with a vengeance. The dog doesn’t die, but the bad guys do, in bloodthirsty, vigilante, super satisfying ways.

The Sydney Rye Mysteries are cathartic as fuck for those of us who can see what’s happening. Those of us blessed or cursed to recognize how this ends if we lose.

My books might teach you something—but more than that, they will acknowledge what you already know to be true. Everyone has equal value, but too few of us recognize it.

You are powerful. You matter. You can change the world—each of us can in our way.

I write my books to remind myself of these truths, so I can hold onto them as the tsunami of lies tries to sway me.

If you feel sick with dread, lit up with rage, and on the brink…my books may help you too.
